Highest point ceremony Nicoya reached
A greener, more livable city is within reach. On Wednesday, December 4, Cartesius celebrated the topping out of Nicoya, marking an important milestone in the development. In the presence of MRP, Ballast Nedam Development, Ballast Nedam West, and CBRE Investment Management, the final roof plate was placed on Samara, CBRE Investment Management's newest building. This moment also signifies the first highest point in the second phase of Cartesius. To mark the occasion, construction workers were treated to a well-earned and sustainably sourced snack from food truck Hieper de Pieper, bringing a festive close to an important milestone in creating a city that balances housing, nature, and community.

The second phase of Cartesius will bring 770 new homes, including 242 residences in Nicoya, offering a mix of social rental apartments, free-sector owner-occupied homes, and rental apartments. Designed as a new urban district in Utrecht, Cartesius prioritizes biodiversity, sustainability, and generous open spaces that create room to live, work, and unwind—together or in solitude. More than just a neighborhood, Cartesius serves as a blueprint for the city of the future, where people can live healthier, happier, and longer. Here, you’ll find a home that fits your needs—for now and for the future, a home for life.
